“Dangerously In Love” may have been an awesome album by Beyoncé, but it’s not exactly the kind of thing you want to find yourself involved in, especially if you are using magick to attract love into your life. In this article, we’ll discuss the manners in which you can use magick to find your Prince or Princess Charming in a way that is positive and useful, and I’ll highlight some of the biggest mistakes many people make with love spells that could land you in a less-than-desirable situation.
What a Love Spell Should NOT Be
I can’t tell you how many times someone has contacted me saying something similar to the following:
I’m totally in love with X, but they don’t feel the same way and they’re getting ready to get married to Y. Y is not good enough for X. I know that I’m meant to be with X forever, they just don’t see it yet. Please help me cast a spell on X to make them fall in love with me and never, ever leave me.
The variations are as varied as the people who send them, but you get the idea.
I’m no stranger to unrequited love, and it’s not that I don’t have sympathy for the people who reach out to me in such desperation. And in the past, I’ve admittedly thought to myself, “Self, you’re a witch. You could just cast a spell and [insert name of romantic interest here] would fall head over heels in love with you!”
Thankfully, however, Self never listened to me. But why is it a bad idea to do a “fall in love with me, dammit!” spell?
It Infringes Upon Free Will
The most important reason it’s never a good idea to cast a spell on someone so they fall in love with you is because it takes away that person’s free will. Magick is a very real and powerful force, and it causes change to occur. Now, I could quote a few different lines from the Wiccan Rede like “an it harm none, do what thou will,” but this is bigger than that.
One of the few truly innate rights we have is the power of free will. To take that away from someone is not only unethical, it’s karmically criminal. Imagine for a moment that you wake up one day and you no longer have the power to think independently. Imagine your thoughts being under the control of someone else. What do you think that would feel like?
The bottom line is you should never take away someone’s inherent right to exercise their free will.
You’ll Be Dealing With Some Shady Energies
If you were to cast a spell that makes someone fall in love with you, you’re not going to be dealing with a high vibrational entity when you’re casting it. It would be like asking a police officer if they would kill your annoying next door neighbor. If you want your next door neighbor to suddenly and mysteriously disappear, then you’re going to have to visit the seedy underbelly of society… gangsters, hit men, and others of their ilk.
(Disclaimer: I’m not encouraging you to do this. So your neighbor forgets to bring his trash bin in after trash pickup day… It’s not worth killing over!) And when you’re dealing with people of such questionable morals and ethics, chances are they’re not upstanding individuals, so there are obvious risks in dealing with people like that.
No astral entity that has a positive, high vibration is going to take part in usurping the free will of another person. You’d be dealing with some very low vibrational energies and entities. And just like the hit man, their ethics are nonexistent.
Negative entities (or, to use the Christian vernacular, “demons”) are not going to think twice to sap you of your energy, double-cross you, or use you as an astral punching bag. And when you act in concert with these entities, it can create some very nasty attachments that can be very hard to get rid of.
It’s Bad Karma
There are many, many different ideas of what the word “karma” truly means. And in an upcoming article, I’ll give you my perspective on the whole karma situation. But making someone fall in love with you sends out negative energy. And according to the Law of Attraction, we get back what we put out. And according to the Wiccan Rule of Three, we get three times what we put out.
Keep in mind, also, that it doesn’t mean that you’d get three people trying to make YOU fall in love with THEM. It doesn’t work like that. It’s not a “tit-for-tat” exchange. So the negative energetic return could come in ANY form.
It Just Might Work
Some people may think that this is a positive result. But consider this: Say you cast the spell to make X fall in love with you. It works, and you begin to date, maybe even get married. But after a while, you realize that the relationship isn’t at all what you thought it would be. Instead of Saturday nights filled with “Netflix and chill” you get “Drunkenness and shouting matches.” Instead of bringing out the best in each other, you bring out the worst in each other. Perhaps X proves to be unfaithful or abusive or just a complete bore to be around.
And consider this: You realize it was a mistake and you break up. But you cast the love spell, and they’re not willing to let the relationship go. All the while, the person who was a TRUE vibrational match for you has been rerouted by the Universe and is now living a happy life in the suburbs with their spouse while you’re stuck living with X in their parent’s basement. The old saying is true: Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.
What a Love Spell SHOULD Be
Okay, enough of the bummer talk. So you want to cast a love spell, and, thanks to the warnings you just read, you don’t want to cast a spell on X. What, then, is the RIGHT way to cast a love spell?
Use Meditation & Visualization to Manifest a Match
If you’re tired of being single and you want to use magick to find love, one of the best ways to get that is to use meditation and visualization. But rather than concentrating your energy on bringing a specific person to fall in love with you, focus instead on bringing the energy of love, attraction, and romance. Visualize the qualities and traits that you desire in a romantic partner. Ask the Universe to bring you someone who is a vibrational match to you. By doing this, you’re inviting romantic love into your life without subverting anyone’s free will.
Exude the Qualities You’re Looking For
If you want someone who’s compassionate, funny, listens to you, and likes the outdoors, then exhibit those qualities yourself. As you do this, you’re “tweaking” your vibration. And since “like attracts like,” you’ll be much more likely to be mutually attracted to each other. A big part of finding the “right one” is to BE the “right one” for them.
Cast a Proper Love Spell
The concept of casting a proper love spell is similar to using meditation and visualization. A proper love spell is one in which you invite romantic love into your life. The intent is focused around attracting that energy to you, rather than attracting a specific person to you. If the person you’re attracted to is a true energetic match, then the Universe will handle the sequence of events that are necessary for them to see you in a romantic light.
Enlisting the Help of Others
Unfortunately for those of us who operate on a highly ethical level, there are people out there who prey upon those who are desperate for love. These individuals have no qualms with charging you money to cast a spell over someone to cause them to fall in love with you. If you come across someone who is willing to cast a “love spell” so that X falls in love with you, turn around and walk away… quickly.
Having someone else cast the spell does not absolve you of the negative energy that will result from it. It’s just like hiring a hit man to kill your neighbor (I’m really starting to wonder why you’re so fixated on killing your neighbor. Live and let live, man!). Just because you paid someone else to pull the trigger doesn’t mean you’re not just as guilty.
On the other hand, there’s nothing wrong with enlisting the help of an ethical worker of magick to cast a proper love spell. However, I encourage you to cast the spell yourself. The energy that you will raise by doing it yourself is much more powerful, since you’re the one who desires to have love in your life. That doesn’t mean that someone can’t assist in the effort, but by taking an active part in raising that energy, you’ll also raise your own vibration, which is one of the most important aspects of attracting love.
